The puppies are born!

The first puppy, a girl. She came out breech. She was born around 4:30 PM

2nd one down!

This one we call "scar". He has a special place in our heart. While Abby was getting his sac off she got his nose with her tooth. We also had a little bit of a scare with his umbilical cord, for some reason it just didn't want to stop bleeding. Fortunately we had some silver nitrate sticks from doing nail trimmings and we took turns pinching it.

The litter is born! The official count is 7! 2 Girls and 5 Boys! All the pups were born alive and we didn't loose any during delivery!

All in all a good first delivery, I think all the puppies were born by 10:00 PM. We stuck by her for a while to make sure everybody was okay, and we didn't know how many puppies we were expecting.

Abby took right to mothering the puppies one by one as they were born.

About Abby (mommy dog) and us

Abby is a 2 year old AKC German Shepherd. We bought Abby from a breeder in Salt Lake on Christmas Eve 2006 when we had to put our older German Shepherd, Junior, down because of health problems related to him having Parvo as a puppy. We have a son from him, Tegun, he is almost 8 years old and healthy as a horse! Abby was obviously the smallest from her litter, we had the chance to meet one of her litter mates, a male and he was gorgeous! And he was as big as Tegun. Her small size is a bit of a mystery to us, she is healthy, just small.

When we bought Abby we didn't have intentions to breed her, she was more of a companion for Tegun. Watching her grow and play we discovered that she is a really good dog. She has the best disposition ever. She lets the kids climb all over her and she never growls or even raises a lip in a snarl at them.

When Abby turned 2 we looked into breeding her with our male dog, Tegun. Come to find out they are COUSINS! Well we aren't able to do that, but at least we know she has good lineage.

Despite her small size we decided that her disposition would be a good trait to pass along.

Her mom was pure white AKC GSD and her dad was black with some brown markings AKC GSD, both parents were around 90-100 lbs and tall at the shoulder.

This is her first litter of puppies. We hope to keep in touch with most if not all of the future owners of her puppies to see how they turn out as far as temperament and size.
